Prepared by Clare Wilson, Manager of Student Disability Services
In preparation of being out of the office for a week, here is a resource to figure out where to go if the SDS manager is not immediately available.
I have an emergency.
Email Student Affairs ([email protected]), briefly explaining your situation and that it is urgent. Those who monitor the Student Affairs email will direct it to the person/people who can assist.
Or call 212-817-7400.
I need assistance making materials accessible.
Reach out to our capable team at [email protected].
I need a chair or other equipment for a class, meeting, or event this week.
Send the details (time, date, location) to SDS staff ([email protected]) and Student Affairs ([email protected]) and put the date needed in the subject line. If the event is more than 2 business days after my expected return, email the SDS manager ([email protected]) and copy SDS staff ([email protected]); it could take a couple days to catch up on emails after being away.
I just found out/remembered that I have an exam this week and haven’t told SDS yet.
Please email the details (time, date, professor, course) to the SDS staff member assigned to assist with your exam scheduling, and also copy the following addresses to ensure the request is received: SDS staff ([email protected]), Student Affairs ([email protected]), and SDS manager ([email protected]). Then remind your professor of your accommodations.
I need an extension or will be absent for a disability-related reason.
Contact your professor and copy the SDS manager ([email protected]).
Make your request, and let your professor know that I am out of the office and will follow up when I return, if needed.
The SDS computer I am using is not working properly or the software needs updating.
If it urgent (need it now), call IT at x7300 (212-817-7300).
If semi-urgent (need it this week), email [email protected] and copy [email protected] and [email protected].
If it not urgent, I can submit a work order to IT when I return, so just email me as usual.
I am not well and think I may need to Zoom in to class.
Please contact your professor right away.
Let your professor know that they can request a Zoom setup directly from IT Media Services ([email protected]) and also can request technical assistance.
The classroom computer, projector, OWL, Zoom, etc. are not working, and a student needs to Zoom in.
Contact IT at x7300 or email [email protected] and copy [email protected].
This is a good rule in general; contacting Student Disability Services (only) with IT concerns delays getting the issue fixed, and if I am out of the office, I cannot forward your requests to IT.
Also, if someone has a laptop or device with them and can connect to Zoom in the meantime while IT troubleshoots, even if just for audio, that helps.
It can wait until you are back.
Great! Send me an email directly, and I encourage you to follow up when I return to the office.
My inquiry is not disability-related.
